Our Difficulties and Their Proper Solution.
The Importance of Worship in Islam:
Among Islamic acts of worship, four are considered fundamental: “Salah (Prayer), Sawm (Fasting), Hajj (Pilgrimage), and Zakat (Charity)”. However, Salah is unique because it is essential for “all people equally” — rich or poor, male or female, free Person or servant. Unlike Zakat, Hajj, or Sawm, Salah is not dependent on wealth, a specific month, or particular circumstances. It is a “universal Worship ” through which every person can receive blessings.
Prayer: A Universal Act for All:
The “Qur’an and Hadith” have repeatedly emphasized the importance of Salah. This is because it is the act through which a servant can purify the soul, cleanse the heart, and establish a connection with the Creator. Hence, among all Islamic acts of worship, “Salah is given the highest priority and emphasis”.
Salah awakens the spirit of obedience and servitude in a believing servant. It is a proof of faith, a means of maintaining moral integrity, and an opportunity for a person to express servitude through various physical actions, ultimately bringing peace and contentment to the heart.
Connecting with Allah Through Worship:
When a servant approaches Allah with **purity, sincerity, and firm intention**, standing humbly, bowing respectfully, prostrating in submission, and performing acts of repentance, they feel the presence of their Creator. They realize that their Sustainer and Provider is watching over them and will bless them with countless favors.
Through this humility and devotion, the servant learns to seek help only from Allah, and ultimately achieves **guidance and salvation**.
Sincerity and Humility in Prayer.
Being available for the worship of Allah does not mean abandoning efforts to earn a livelihood. Rather, it means:
● When worshipping Allah, both the “heart and body should be present”,
● The worship should be performed with humility and concentration,
● The greatness of Allah should resonate within the heart.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺinstructed:
“Worship Allah as if you see Him; and if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.”
Those who worship with full attention and presence are promised by Allah, as conveyed by the Prophet ﷺ:
1. Their hearts will be filled with “prosperity”,
2. Their hands will be filled with “sustenance”.
Conversely, neglecting worship invites warnings from Allah:
1. Their hearts will be filled with “poverty and neediness”,
2. They will become entangled in “fruitless activities”.
Mental and Physical Presence in Salah.
If Allah, the Owner of all treasures, fills someone with sustenance, how could poverty approach them? And if the Almighty entangles someone in useless matters, how could leisure be found?
Therefore, one should dedicate oneself fully — “both heart and body” — to Allah’s worship, acknowledging that “Allah is watching”, in order to gain ease in this world and the Hereafter.
Prayer: The Cure for Every Distress.
Allah Almighty says in the Qur’an:
“وَ اسْتَعِیْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَ الصَّلٰوة”
“And seek help through patience and prayer.” (Qur’an 2:45)
As noted by the great scholar “Imam Jalal-ad-Din Al-Suyuti” citing “Hazrat Qatada (RA)”:
“Both patience and Salah are means of seeking help from Allah; through them, you may ask Allah for assistance.”
“Qazi Sanaullah Panipati” explains:
“For fulfilling both religious and worldly needs, seek help through patience and prayer.”
Spiritual Benefits of Prayer.
Salah is instrumental in achieving comfort in this world and the Hereafter, and it helps overcome trials in both realms:
1. Prevents sins,
2. Cures diseases of the heart and body,
3. Illuminates the heart and face,
4. Revitalizes the spirit and body,
5. Attracts sustenance,
6. Prevents oppression and aids the oppressed,
7. Restrains indecency and immoral acts,
8. Safeguards Allah’s blessings,
9. Protects from the punishment of the Hereafter,
10. Brings down Allah’s mercy,
11. Removes grief.
Salah brings “peace and happiness”. It combines the remembrance and worship of Allah, relieving the heart’s distress. A person who prays with intention and tranquility feels “lightness in the soul”, as if vitality, ease, and health have filled them, and the burdens of life have lifted.
Turning to Prayer in Difficult Times.
One who feels anxiety and distress should perform ablution properly and engage fully in Salah. Insha’Allah, they will find relief. The Prophet ﷺ instructed **Bilal (RA)**:
*”O Bilal! Stand and bring us comfort and tranquility through prayer.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Vol. 4, Hadith 4986 (Page 385)
Salah provides relief after exhausting work, just as a tired traveler finds rest upon reaching their destination. In every moment of hardship, turning to Salah is akin to seeking Allah’s mercy. When divine mercy assists, no difficulty remains insurmountable.
The companions of the Prophet ﷺ, who faithfully followed his guidance at every step, practiced this as well. Hence, in all troubles, one should turn to Salah. Through its blessings, Allah grants relief and guidance, helping to overcome problems.
Conclusion: The Ultimate Comfort Lies in Prayer.
Through consistent devotion and sincerity in Salah, one achieves “peace, guidance, and spiritual elevation”. Every trial becomes easier, every darkness brighter, and every heart calmer. The essence of comfort lies in the worship of Allah, and Salah is the key to unlock that comfort.
