The concept of the evil eye is an ancient belief that suggests someone’s envy or malice can unintentionally cause harm to others. This harm can show up in various ways, not just physically but also emotionally, socially, or spiritually. For instance, a person might suddenly fall ill, face financial problems, or experience bad luck in their relationships or business without any clear reason. Many people believe that setbacks like these could be caused by the evil eye.
From a psychological point of view, constant stress, jealousy, or negative thinking can affect a person’s well-being and success, which ties into the idea that negative energy from others can impact someone’s life. In some cases, the effects are so strong that they disrupt the peace and happiness of entire families.

In Islam, there are teachings to protect oneself from the evil eye, such as reciting specific prayers, seeking Allah’s protection, and avoiding feelings of jealousy. Practices like reciting Durood Sharif can help safeguard against its effects.
Characteristic of Muwiztin (Surah Ikhlas & Surah Falaq)
After reciting the last three surahs of the Holy Qur’an three times and the first and last one, once, whoever has evil eyes or fears of getting evil eyes, should breathe for three days. And feed them by stewing them on grass etc., if they keep feeding them by stewing them on salt for three days, then it is better. And keep on drinking water to ward off witchcraft. If a person recites these surahs at night and breathes on his O, he will be safe from every calamity. If one reads these surahs while sleeping in the house one sleeps in, the place and the reciter will be safe from accidents.
If, while going to the forest, he reads them, blows on his hands, rubs his whole body and does this three times, then he will be at peace from every calamity. If he goes to the ruler, recites it eleven times and blows towards the ruler and also on himself, then he will be safe from his fear, terror and danger.
Remedy for evil eyes
“Evil Eyes” does not appear to be a sensory disease, but its effects are revealed, and this disease is a fact that is proven by authentic hadiths.
Translation: And it is near that the disbelievers will
Spread you with their sharp eyes when ever (Surah: Al-Qalam / 51)
They listen to the Qur’an and say, “This must be crazy.”
Hazrat Hasan Basri, may God bless him and grant him peace, and Hazrat Thanvi, may God bless him and grant him peace, said that blackness is useful for the evil eye, and Ali Shah mentioned it frequently during the blessed era of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, and it was included in the books of hadiths.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Appearances are indeed a reality. If anything can change destiny, this appearance can. Therefore, the Holy Prophet ﷺcommanded, was a prophet, and taught the Muslims amulets and cures for the evil eye. Taking a look at the authentic traditions of Prophetic Medicine, this fact is revealed. Specially taught the Ummah.
Sighting itself is proven by the Holy Qur’an and many authentic hadiths. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, said: Those who are deprived of intellect and understanding deny sighting and call it mere imagination or illusion. They are ignorant and stupid. Both protection and treatment from this disease have been taught by the Prophet ﷺ to the Ummah. It is proven by Sadiq and Masduq that there are two types of sight.
- Satanic
- Human
A few arguments of the Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ on the effect of the evil eye
See the translation of the decrees of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, about sight
- Seek Allah’s refuge from the evil eye, because it is right to get the evil eye.
- Evil eye is a right and can make a person fall from a high mountain.
- An evil eye leads a man to death and a young camel to the saddle.
- After Allah decrees destiny, most deaths will occur in my ummah due to the evil eye. Now some measures to avoid the evil eye and some legitimate treatment methods are written here so that Muslims can arrange to avoid the evil eye.
First treatment
Sayyid al-Mafsreen Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas Bani Aha narrated that: “The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, Imam Hasan Mujtabi and Imam al-Maqam Sayyid Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) prayed (the following) to be safe from Satan, poisonous animals, and the evil eye. He used to read it and then he used to say that your great majesty Ibrahim (peace be upon him) used to do this to his sons Ismail and Ishaq (peace be upon him).
Second treatments:
Whoever is suffering from evil eye should recite this dua fifteen times and breathe on the water and splash the face with the breathed water.
It was the habit of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) to teach this Masnoon prayer to his intelligent children and for the unintelligent children, he used to write it on paper and put it around their necks (as an amulet).
Third treatment:
Our Beloved Prophetﷺ, Messenger of Allah, We have said that whoever recites the following verses of Surah Momin in the morning:
And if he recites Ayat al-Kursi, he will be protected from the evil eye through it until the evening, and whoever recites it in the evening will be protected through it until the morning.
Fourth treatment:
It is a very experienced and highly tested practice of Hazrat Sarkar Pir o Murshid that all the healing verses in the Holy Qur’an Furqan Hameed should be recited daily, or they should be recited, breathed, watered and drunk, or the healing verses should be recited. By writing with rose water and saffron with a perfect wash, dissolving it in water and drinking it continuously, it cures magic spells and protection from the evil eye.
Fifth treatment:
A person who fears that his eyes may catch sight of a living being or an object should say:
Sixth treatment:
Writing this verse after washing and drinking it and making amulets and wearing it is very useful for the evil eye.
If a person imagines that he has an evil eye on himself or his honor or wealth, then he should recite the same verse and exhale three times.
Seventh treatment:
An old man says that I had a very fast and agile camel. It happened that we agreed to land at a destination. Then a person said to me that there is a person here who is famous for sight and your camel is very good. I am afraid that the person will not notice it somewhere, due to which your camel will be lost.
I replied that he will not look at my camel. Coincidentally, this person came to know about my talk, so this person came and looked at my camel. That person has noticed your camel, I called him and made him sit in front of me and read these words:
As soon as these words were read, the person’s eyes were opened and my camel became well. Blessed is it, when something like magic disappears and affects something that is far away, then why will the name of Almighty God not have an effect, Allah knows best.
Eighth treatment:
In Sunan Abi Dawud, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: “If it was said to the one who casts the evil eye (in the time of the Prophet), then he would perform ablution (i.e. wash the various parts) and then remove the evil eye with (used) water. Bathing.
Ninth Treatment:
One of the ways (to prevent the evil eye) is to hide one’s virtues from the person who is in danger of seeing them. Therefore, Imam Baghwi, may God have mercy on him, has narrated this hadith in Sharh al-Sunnah that Hazrat Uthman, may God be pleased with him, saw a beautiful child and said: Make the pit of his chin so that it is not visible.
Tenth treatment:
In Sunan Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite this protective dua:
Translation: I seek refuge with Allah from the sight of jinn and people.
After that, when the Mu’awizteen (Surah Falaq and Surah Al-Nas) were revealed, the Prophet ﷺ started reciting them and left the other supplications.
Eleventh treatment:
Hazrat Amir bin Rabi’ah (RA) narrates that once he and Hazrat Sahl bin Hunayf (RA) went in search of a pool for bathing, somewhere amidst dense bushes. When they found a suitable pool, they both felt shy about undressing in front of each other. So, Hazrat Sahl bin Hunayf (RA) hid himself in the pool. Once he was sure that he was hidden, he took off his woolen cloak. I was astonished by his beauty and, unintentionally, my gaze affected him (with the evil eye), causing him to cry out in pain. I called out to him, but he could not respond.
I immediately went to the service of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and told him everything. The Prophet (PBUH) asked the companions to come along and went to the pool himself. Lifting his garment up to his calves, he entered the water. I can still remember the shine of his blessed calves. The Prophet (PBUH) struck Sahl bin Hunayf’s chest and recited a prayer.
Twelfth treatment:
Place your hands on the head of a patient with evil eyes and recite this dua:
Thirteenth treatment:
Place your hands on the patient’s head and recite this dua:
Fourteenth Treatment:
Hazrat Ali Al-Murtaza (Karam Allah Wajhahu) narrates that: “Angel Jibreel (AS) came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and found him in a state of concern. He asked, ‘O Muhammad, why do you appear troubled?’ The Prophet (PBUH) replied, ‘Hasan and Husayn (RA) have been affected by the evil eye.’ Angel Jibreel (AS) said, ‘You should acknowledge that the evil eye is real. Why haven’t you recited the protective words over them?’ The Prophet (PBUH) asked, ‘Which words, O Jibreel?’ Angel Jibreel (AS) then presented these words to him…”
And these are perfect and acceptable words (read on).
Hazrat Aqdas (S.A.M.) gave this tail to Hazrat Imam Hasan Mujtaba and Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.), and they started playing in front of a scholar at that time.
After that, the Prophet ﷺ said that by reading about these families and these children, there can be no better and more useful day in the days of reading.
If animals get evil eyes
Hazrat Abdullah bin Masoud (RA) used to recite this dua four times in the right nostril of the animal and three times in its left nostril when an animal had evil eyes.
Evil eyes of children
Hazrat Asma bint Umays (RA) came to the service of the Holy Prophet (SAW) and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, the children of Hazrat Ja’far are effected by evil eyes, can I blow a broom for them?” The Prophet (SAW) said: “Yes, then.” He said that if there is anything that surpasses Death and destiny, it is to be seen. (Tirmidhi 2059)
In this tradition, the verses and supplications with which she used to blow the broom herself or did it with others are not mentioned. And to protect people from the evil eye, Muawiztin () used to read.
Some scholars have prescribed the following amulets keeping in view the hadiths. Which they have experienced time and time again,
After reciting قُلْ اَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ and قُلْ اَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ three times, he should recite it and write this dua and put it on his neck.
